CU’s Kane Webber of Sunset Golf Course continued his outstanding 2003 season by capturing the CGA State Public Links Championship. Webber, the reigning CGA State Amateur champion, shot one-under par 71 in the final round for a three-day total of 203. Webber began the day one stroke behind 17-year-old Derek Tolan of Highlands Ranch Golf Club (2002 US Open qualifier). Tolan missed a three-foot birdie putt on 18 that would have won the championship, and had to settle for par and force a playoff. Webber made par on the first playoff hole, and Tolan’s par putt slid past the hole to give Webber the title. Defending champion Nolan Martin of Gleneagle Golf Club made a late charge firing a third round 66 to finish in third place at 204. Marc Hocking of Patty Jewett Golf Course also fired a final round 66 to finish in fourth place at 205.
