Two Colorado golf professionals — Ron Vlosich of Lakewood and Russ Clark of Denver — earned return trips to the U.S. Senior Open through a Sectional Qualifying tournament at Rolling Hills Country Club in Golden on Thursday.
Vlosich (at left in photo with Clark) shot a 4-under-par 67 to gain medalist honors, while Clark posted a 68. As the top two players out of an original field of 84, they’ll advance to the U.S. Senior Open, which is set for July 28-31 at the Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio.
Vlosich made six birdies on Thursday and played his final 10 holes in 5 under par. Clark posted seven birdies on the day.
This will be the third U.S. Senior Open for the 54-year-old Vlosich, who placed 40th in 2007 and missed the cut last year. He’s also played in the U.S. Open, the PGA Championship and the Senior PGA Championship.
Clark, 54, competed in the 2009 U.S. Senior Open and qualified for the U.S. Open in 1980.
Former Colorado Open champions Mike Zaremba of Pueblo West and Bill Loeffler of Castle Rock were the first and second alternates, respectively, after each shooting 69.
