Three Colorado teenagers — Calli Ringsby of Cherry Hills Village, Taylor Dorans of Erie and Hannah Wood of Centennial — qualified for the U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship Tuesday at Valley Country Club in Centennial.
Ringsby, the runner-up in the CWGA Stroke Play last year as a 15-year-old, shot an even-par 72 Tuesday to earn medalist honors. Dorans landed the second spot with a 73. (Ringsby is at left in photo with Dorans.)
Meanwhile, Wood (pictured below) shot 74. She defeated Californian Bethany Wu, a two-time U.S. Girls’ Junior qualifier, with a par on the first hole of a playoff to gain the third and final national berth.
This year’s U.S. Girls’ Junior will be played July 16-21 at Lake Merced Golf Club in Daly City, Calif.
Twenty-three players competed in Tuesday’s qualifier, and four shot under 78.
Ringsby, who placed fourth in the 5A state high school tournament last month, made five birdies in her round on Tuesday. Dorans, who placed fourth in the 4A state meet, chalked up four birdies — all in a front nine in which she shot 2-under 34, like Ringsby. And Wood, a third-place finisher in 5A, also made four birdies on Tuesday.
