The Colorado Women’s Golf Association (CWGA) and Colorado Golf Association (CGA) announced that they have executed an assignment of membership interest of the CommonGround Golf Course that transfers all ownership interest of the course to the CGA. The CGA and CWGA have co-owned and co-operated CommonGround Golf Course since it opened in May of 2009.
“We are proud to have been a part of the CommonGround project and to have partnered with the CGA to make it a reality,” stated CWGA president, Joanie Ott. “This decision was based on our desire to focus our resources on what we believe is the core mission of the CWGA–serving women golfers in the state of Colorado.”
CommonGround Golf Course is the site of the former Lowry Air Force Base Golf Course that was closed in 1995 as part of the Lowry closure. From 1995 to 2005 the course, renamed “Mira Vista,” was operated by a third-party management company under the oversight of the CGA and CWGA in partnership with the Lowry Redevelopment Authority (LRA). In 2005 the CGA and CWGA purchased the course from the LRA and began planning a complete renovation of the property. Renaissance Golf Design, led by Tom Doak, was hired to redesign the course and in 2009 the course was reopened with the addition of a nine-hole, par-three “kid’s course” and an improved practice facility.
“CommonGround has provided a great platform for collaboration on a multitude of levels, but none more important than our relationship with the CWGA,” stated CGA president, Phil Lane. “CommonGround is a great example of two organizations coming together for the betterment of a larger community. The CGA is committed to continuing to build on the great success CommonGround has enjoyed these past six years.”
