Colorado Golf Hall of Famer Brandt Jobe tied his best finish ever on the PGA Tour Champions circuit and qualified for the 36-man final tournament of the inaugural Schwab Cup Playoffs.
Jobe, who won four open-division major CGA championships and a Colorado Open during his 29 years living in Colorado, tied for third place Sunday in the Dominion Charity Classic in Richmond, Va., the second of three Champions playoff tournaments.
Jobe closed with a 5-under-par 67 on Sunday, when he made seven birdies. He finished at 11-under-par 205, two strokes behind champion Scott McCarron.
Sunday marked Jobe’s seventh top-10 showing of his rookie season on the Champions circuit — and second in a row.
With the top 36 players in Charles Schwab Cup points after Sunday advancing to next week’s Charles Schwab Cup Championship in Scottsdale, Ariz., Jobe stood in 16th place.
Overall for the 2016 season, Jobe has earned $880,664 in Champions events.
Also advancing to the Charles Schwab Cup Championship was former Castle Pines resident Esteban Toledo, who squeaked into the field by standing 36th in Schwab points.
(Updated Nov. 13) Toledo finished 10th and Jobe 26th in the season-ending Charles Schwab Cup Championship. Jobe ended up 10th on the money list for the Schwab Cup playoffs, while Toledo was 21st.
