Jim Knous of Englewood shot his third straight round of 70 on Saturday at the final stage of Web.com Q-school, and he’d be more than happy to add another one on Sunday in Winter Garden, Fla.
The former Colorado School of Mines golfer (pictured) shares 21st place with one round remaining in Q-school, leaving him in position to earn good status on the Web.com circuit in 2017.
Knous made four birdies and three bogeys in Saturday’s third round, putting him at 4-under-par 210 overall.
The top 45 finishers and ties after four rounds will earn status that guarantees them spots in at least early-season Web tournaments. The medalist will be fully exempt for the entire season. All competitors in the final stage this weekend will receive at least conditional status on the Web circuit, but in some cases that could mean just one or two starts for next year.
Also in the top 45 going into the final round is University of Colorado senior golfer Jeremy Paul, who is tied for 26th place at 3-under-par 211. The German shot a 1-over-par 72 on Saturday, carding two birdies and three bogeys. Paul, who owns the best career stroke average in CU golf history, would likely turn pro and skip his final semester in Boulder if he finishes highly enough on Sunday.
Leading the way after 54 holes are Dan Woltman and Puma Dominguez, who are at 11-under 203.
