After a late run from “Team Intern” the team of Mate-Gangloff held on for a comfortable victory in the First Annual CGA Team Masters 10-Square Championship. The winning team was able to accumulate a total of 18 points over the four days of competition making them the only team to finish in the black. Second place (20 points behind) was the team of Olson and Barnhart who finished the championship at -2.
“It was fun to see the young intern team put together some really impressive shots,” said Mate. “They played beautifully early but stumbled down the stretch. I felt bad for them.”
“This victory is extra sweet,” added Gangloff. “It really shows how all the hard work has paid off and how my new mental approach is working. Not only did we win, we kicked ass and took names. Frankly this really wasn’t much of a competition.”
Gangloff went on (or I should say, “went off”) with several other comments about her competition but since this is a family publication we cannot print them here.
The team of Codiga and Duke came in DFL, but that side of the competition was quite close with several teams vying for the last place distinction. The final pairing on the course, the team of Bley-Kellough, finished strong when Kellough scored 4 points on the final putt which was enough to keep the team out of last place even with Ann Bley’s shotgun blast into Emily Olson’s cubicle (-5).
Next up is the U.S. Open Team Championship which is scheduled for June 15-16. CGA Director of Competitions Robert Duke will be responsible for the course setup for the season’s second major.
“I don’t want to say that I am bitter,” noted Duke after his poor Masters showing. “But let’s just say that no one is going to be in positive numbers at the end of four rounds when I am done with them.”
Pairings for the next event will be announced on June 12th and press conferences are scheduled for the following afternoon in the CGA Conference Room.
