It’s been a memorable last few weeks for Colorado Golf Hall of Famer Brandt Jobe on the PGA Tour Champions circuit.
Three weeks ago, he earned his first victory in his 369th combined start between the PGA Tour and PGA Tour Champions, prevailing in the Principal Charity Classic. Then on Saturday in Peabody, Mass., he matched the low round in the history of the U.S. Senior Open.
Jobe, who lived in Colorado from 1970 to ’99 before moving to Texas, shot an 8-under-par 62 at Salem Country Club, matching the championship standard established by Loren Roberts at Prairie Dunes in 2006 and tied on Thursday at Salem CC by Kirk Triplett.
The round not only put Jobe in the USGA record books, but it left him in third place going into Sunday’s final round. He stands at 9-under-par 201, behind only Triplett (195) and Kenny Perry (196). Jobe (pictured) is aiming for his fourth top-five finish in senior majors since the beginning of 2016.
On Saturday, Jobe was 2 under par through 11 holes, but went 6 under the rest of the way, making five consecutive birdies starting at No. 12, then adding another on 18, giving him a 6-under 29 on the back nine. Overall, he chalked up nine birdies and a bogey on Saturday.
“This was a good one,” the 51-year-old said. “This one came at a good place, and at a good time.
“Just kind of had a game plan today and rolled in some putts. I haven’t made any putts this week so that was kind of fun.”
The round improved Jobe’s standing by 26 spots at the Senior Open.
