Brian Guetz, a two-time CoBank Colorado Open champion and one of just two amateur winners of that event, has been hired as an assistant coach for the University of Denver men’s golf program, head coach Erik Billinger announced on Wednesday.
Guetz, who grew up in Littleton, was an assistant coach at Oklahoma State, traditionally one of the top men’s golf programs in the country, from 2011 to ’15. Guetz also played at OSU.
“Brian will bring a ton of high-level playing and coaching experience to DU golf,” Billinger said. “His desire to help our guys with their individual games, and share his experiences with them will be absolutely invaluable.”
In 2015, Guetz was a finalist for the Strickland Award, given to a college assistant coach who has excelled in working with student-athletes both on the course and in the classroom.
At Oklahoma State, Guetz helped coach Coloradan Wyndham Clark, the 2014 Big 12 Player of the Year.
Guetz won the 1994 Colorado Open as an amateur and the 2008 Open as a pro. He also won an event on PGA Tour Canada in 2006, during a professional playing career that lasted from 1997 to 2009.
DU will start the season on Sept. 18-19 at Colorado State University’s Ram Masters Invitational.
