The bounce-back statistic in golf generally refers to a player rebounding from a bad hole (over par) with a good one (under par). But in a bigger perspective, Wyndham Clark scored very highly in the bounce-back stat.
The Denver native missed the cut in the season-opening tournament on the Web.com Tour just over a week ago, posting a very uncharacteristic 80 in the second round of The Bahamas Great Exuma Classic.
But Clark (pictured in a PGATour.com photo) has been a completely different player in his next tournament start and led after each of the first two days of The Bahamas Great Abaco Classic. And despite losing ground with a even-under-par 72 on Tuesday — after bogeying the par-5 18th — the former CGA Amateur champion trails by just four going into Wednesday’s final round of the event.
Clark, winner of the Pac-12 Conference Championship last April in Boulder, has gone 66-68-72 for a 10-under-par 206 total, leaving him in 10th place, four back of leader Willy Wilcox.
Clark is one of two former CGA champions to be in contention with one round left in the Bahamas. Fellow Denver native Mark Hubbard, who’s spent the past three seasons on the PGA Tour, also shares 10th place at 206.
Hubbard, winner of both major CGA junior titles in 2007, has gone 69-70-67 this week. He made seven birdies and two bogeys on Tuesday.
