Former University of Denver golfer Chris Korte posted the best individual finish by a Colorado golfer in the Pacific Coast Amateur since 2012 on Friday by placing 22nd at The Olympic Club in San Francisco.
The Littleton resident, who has won both the CGA Amateur and CGA Match Play, finished the prestigious 72-hole event with an even-par 284 total after carding scores of 70-69-72-73. He finished 12 strokes behind champion Isaiah Salinda of South San Francisco, a senior-to-be on the Stanford golf team.
The last Coloradan to finish better than Korte (pictured) at the Pac Coast was David Schroeder of Colorado Springs, who placed 12th in 2012.
In Friday’s final round, Korte started with a birdie and added three bogeys in the middle of his round.
The other Coloradan who made the 54-hole cut at the Pac Coast, two-time CGA Mid-Amateur champion Chris Thayer of Golden, finished 70th on Friday with a 300 total.
The three Coloradans who competed in the Pacific Coast Amateur — Korte, Thayer and Jake Staiano of Cherry Hills Village — combined to finish seventh on Wednesday in the 36-hole Morse Cup team competition, marking the state’s best showing in that 15-team event since 2012.
