Bryant, winner of the first two majors of the Junior Golf Alliance of Colorado season, followed up rounds of 73-74 the first two days with scores of 69-67 on Wednesday and Thursday. That gave the 17-year-old a 5-under-par 283 total. The Eaglecrest High School senior (pictured) — and future Colorado State University golfer — finished 17 strokes behind champion Akshay Bhatia of Wake Forest, N.C.
Bryant went bogey-free in the final two rounds, making eight birdies over those 36 holes. He played his last eight holes in 4 under par on Thursday.
Bryant has been on a roll in out-of-state events in recent weeks. He went to the round of 64 of match play at the U.S. Junior Amateur, finished ninth individually in the Junior America’s Cup, then placed 14th in the national Boys Junior PGA Championship.
Bryant’s younger sister, Emma, won the girls title in the Colorado Junior Match Play — the third JGAC major — on Wednesday.
Dillon Stewart of Fort Collins, runner-up to Bryant in the Colorado Junior PGA, also made the cut in the national tournament, finishing 35th. He ended up at even-par 288.
The third Colorado who competed at St. Albans, Cal McCoy of Highlands Ranch, missed the 36-hole cut to the low 70 players and ties after rounds of 77-76.
Bryant, Stewart and McCoy — along with Jackson Solem of Longmont — formed the Colorado team that finished fourth last week at the Junior America’s Cup.
Here are the round-by-round scores for the Coloradans at St. Albans:
14. Davis Bryant of Aurora 73-74-69-67–283
35. Dillon Stewart of Fort Collins 74-69-72-73–288
Missed 36-Hole Cut
Cal McCoy of Highlands Ranch 77-76–153
Jaclyn Murray of Grand Junction and Hailey Schalk of Erie, who in two weeks will be Colorado Girls Junior America’s Cup teammates for the second straight summer, both missed the 36-hole cut Wednesday at St. Albans.
The top 70 players and ties — out of 144 — after two days advanced, with those at 6-over-par 150 or better sticking around. But Murray, a 2017 U.S. Girls’ Junior qualifier, finished in 81st place at 153 (75-78). And Schalk, winner of the AJGA Hale Irwin Colorado Junior along with the 3A state high school meet and the Colorado Junior PGA, checked in at 154 (79-75), good for 88th place.
Former Coloradan Elizabeth Wang, the 2015 winner of this event, shares 14th place after two days at 5-under-par 139 (69-70). (July 21 Update: Wang finished 11th, going 69-70-78-65–282.)
The national Boys Junior PGA Championship also will be held at St. Albans, from July 31-Aug. 3. Davis Bryant of Aurora and Dillon Stewart of Fort Collins have qualified.
