Fifty-five players will be in the field, with the top three finishers earning spots in the Senior Am, which will be contested Aug. 25-30 at Eugene Country Club in Oregon.
Of those 55, almost one-fifth have competed in the U.S. Senior Am just in the last five years.
The list includes Wyoming resident John Hornbeck, the 2018 CGA Senior Match Play champion who has played in three U.S. Senior Amateurs, going to the quarterfinals in 2016. Also, there’s three-time CGA Senior Player of the Year Robert Polk (round of 64 in 2017), Guy Mertz (2017), Robin Bradbury (round of 64 in 2016), Gary Albrecht (2016), Jim Reynolds (2016), Colorado Golf Hall of Famer Kent Moore (2015), Thomas Roos (2015), and David Delich and Harry Johnson (both 2013 and ’14).
Also competing on Tuesday are Steve Ivan, winner of the 2017 CGA Senior Amateur and runner-up in the 2018 CGA Senior Match Play; Charlie Post, who played in the 2017 U.S. Senior Open; 2015 CGA Senior Amateur winner Bill Fowler; 2014 CGA Senior Match Play champ Tom Musselman and Sean Forey.

A total of 82 competitors are entered in the event, which will begin with a stroke-play round on Tuesday, with 32 players advancing to match play beginning on Wednesday.
Starting with the round of 16, two rounds of matches will be held both Thursday and Friday, with the 18-hole final scheduled for Friday afternoon.
The former CGA Match Play champs entered include Jeff Oneth (winner in 2016, who will be the No. 1 seed in this year’s bracket), David Delich (2015, ’11 and ’07), Tom Musselman (2014), Harry Johnson (2013), three-time CGA Senior Player of the Year Robert Polk (2009), Kelly Crone (2005) and Colorado Golf Hall of Famer John Olive (2003, ’02, ’01 and 1997).
Also scheduled to compete are 2016 CGA Senior Player of the Year Robin Bradbury, 2016 CGA Amateur champ Kevin Ott, 2015 CGA Senior Am winner Bill Fowler, and Jeff Hornbeck of Wyoming, who qualified in Colorado for both the U.S. Senior Open and U.S. Senior Amateur in 2016.

After all, with the venue’s very challenging greens, course knowledge could play a large role in determining who is handed the trophy come Thursday. And considering two members who are CGA Senior Amateur champions are entered, the Rolling Hills contingent definitely should not be overlooked at the 54-hole championship, which will start on Tuesday.
Former CGA president Bill Fowler (pictured), who’s part of that contingent, will be looking to parlay his home-course advantage into a second straight Senior Amateur title after having prevailed at Colorado Golf Club last year. Among the other entrants from Rolling Hills are Scott Radcliffe, winner of the 2010 CGA Senior Amateur and the 2004 CGA Senior Match Play; and Sean Forey, the 2010 CGA Senior Player of the Year and recent runner-up in the CGA Super-Senior Stroke Play.
Joining Fowler and Radcliffe among the past champions entered are Colorado Golf Hall of Famer Kent Moore (2014), winner of the 2016 CGA Super-Senior Stroke Play; Harry Johnson (2013); David Delich (2012); and Robert Polk (2005, ’07 and ’09). Other winners of CGA senior individual titles who will compete at Rolling Hills include Tom Musselman, Ray Makloski, Guy Mertz and Jeff Oneth, who won the 2016 CGA Senior Match Play. Robin Bradbury, who last month qualified for the U.S. Senior Amateur and was low senior amateur in the Rocky Mountain Open, is also entered.
The field will be cut to the low 40 players and ties after two rounds.
Worth noting: Until this year, the CGA Senior Amateur was known as the CGA Senior Stroke Play.

]]>At stake will be three spots in the national championship, which is set for Sept. 17-22 at Old Warson Country Club in St. Louis.
Among those signed up to compete at Fox Hollow are 2015 qualifiers Moore and Jeff Reich, along with 2016 U.S. Senior Open qualifier John Hornbeck of Saratoga, Wyo. David Delich of Colorado Springs and Harry Johnson of Edwards, both of whom advanced to the U.S. Senior Amateur in 2013 and ’14, are also in the field, along with Olive and fellow former CGA senior champions Robert Polk of Parker and Tom Musselman.
Only players 55 and older can compete in the U.S. Senior Amateur.

The Parker resident won his second CGA championship on Sunday, and both of those titles have come in western Colorado.
A year after winning the CGA Father/Son by five strokes with his dad Jason at Ironbridge Golf Club in Glenwood Springs, Kyler Dunkle prevailed by four Sunday in the 34th CGA Western Chapter Championship at Eagle Ranch Golf Club in Eagle.
“I’ve always enjoyed being in the mountains, (whether it be) growing up coming up with my parents or skiing a lot with my buddies,” said Dunkle, who plays out of the Club at Pradera. “I just feel comfortable. It helps that the courses I’ve been able to win my championships on are great courses and they’re really fun to play. (He qualified for the 2015 Colorado Open with a 68 at Eagle Ranch.) Eagle Ranch is a really fun course to play, I’m comfortable on it and I’ve had relatively good success.
“I guess you could say the Western Slope is a more positive environment for me, but I just feel really comfortable when I’m in the mountains playing golf.”
On Sunday, Dunkle made six birdies for the second straight day at Eagle Ranch, where he was competing in the Western Chapter for the first time.
A 19-year-old who recently transferred from Colorado State University to Utah, Dunkle shot a 5-under-par 67 and finished with a 7-under 137 total for the weekend.
“It was really fun,” said Dunkle, the 2012 5A state high school champion who also qualified for last year’s U.S. Amateur. “Playing good golf is always enjoyable — much more enjoyable than playing bad golf. (But) I guess what is fun for me is I was able to enjoy playing with the people I was with. Oftentimes that’s what helps you play really well — when you’re with people you’re comfortable with. That was the most enjoyable thing for me — playing a really fun golf course and with some really good guys.”
Tristan Rohrbaugh of Ironbridge Golf Club, the 2015 champion, finished second at 141 after carding a 71 on Sunday. Mark Zbrzeznj of Eagle Vail Golf Club (70 Sunday with an eagle on the 12th hole) came in third at 142, while 2011 winner Keith Humerickhouse of Gypsum Creek Golf Course (72) was fourth at 144.
Dunkle said a two-shot swing on the par-3 15th hole was pivotal on Sunday. He drained a 20-foot birdie there, while Rohrbaugh made bogey, giving Dunkle a four-stroke lead.
“That was kind of a turning point for me,” said Dunkle, who will play in a U.S. Amateur qualifier Monday at Fort Collins Country Club, where he qualified last year. “It kind of solidified how well I was playing and put some more pressure on my playing competitors.”
In the senior tournament, Tom Musselman of Telluride Ski & Golf Club also won by a healthy margin, prevailing by five shots. (Musselman and Dunkle are pictured above, with Musselman at left.)
Musselman, the 2014 CGA Senior Match Play champion and a former Kentucky state amateur winner, posted a two-day total of even-par 144 after closing with a 1-over-par 73 on Sunday. He made four birdies each day of the championship.
Robert Polk of Colorado Golf Club, a three-time CGA Senior Player of the Year, and Thomas Roos of Spring Valley Golf Club shared second place at 149. Roos carded a 75 on Sunday and Polk a 76. First-round leader Gary Driber of the Ridge at Castle Pines North finished fourth at 151 after a final-round 81.

Perez made three birdies and 15 pars to post the only round in the 60s on a day when the wind picked up considerably in the afternoon.
Defending champion Tristan Rohrbaugh of Ironbridge Golf Club and fellow former state high school champion Kyler Dunkle matched 70s to share second place in the opening division going into Sunday’s final round. Dunkle, who recently transferred from Colorado State to Utah, birdied his first four holes of the tournament. Rohrbaugh made three straight birdies during the middle of his round.
Four players, including 2011 champ Keith Humerickhouse of Gypsum Creek Golf Course, fired even-par 72s and are tied for fourth place. Humerickhouse was joined at that figure by Mark Zbrzeznj of Eagle Vail Golf Club, Brad Delman of Eagle Ranch and Joey Haack of Ironbridge.
In the senior division, Gary Driber of the Ridge at Castle Pines North grabbed the lead with a 2-under-par 70, making an eagle and five birdies in the process.
Tom Musselman of Telluride Ski & Golf Club, the 2014 CGA Senior Match Play champion, also broke par Saturday, posting a 71. Three-time CGA Senior Player of the Year Robert Polk of Colorado Golf Club and Jeffrey English of CommonGround Golf Course share third place at 73.

The 36-hole tournament, which features both an open and senior division, will take place Saturday and Sunday (July 16-17) at Eagle Ranch Golf Club in Eagle.
Humerickhouse, who lives in the area, won the third of his four consecutive CGA Mid-Amateur titles (2010-13) at Eagle Ranch. Also the among 67 competitors in the open division is Rohrbaugh, the former 3A state high school champion and current Boise State golfer who won the Western Chapter title by two last year.
Also scheduled to play are Andrew Tapia, who has qualified for multiple USGA championships; Kyler Dunkle, a former 5A state high school champ who recently transferred from Colorado State to Utah; and former University of Louisville golfer and former 5A state champ Gus Lundquist.
Among the 37 players set to compete in the senior division are current or former CGA Senior Players of the Year David Delich, Robert Polk and Harry Johnson, along with 2014 CGA Senior Match Play champ Tom Musselman. Eagle Ranch is Johnson’s home course.

Now that’s what you call a hat trick.
And how appropriate for a former hockey standout at Colorado College.
David Delich of the Broadmoor Golf Club ended defending champion Tom Musselman’s 11-match win streak in the CGA Senior Match Play, and in the process captured his third title in the event and put himself into very elite company.
With his victories in 2007, ’11 and ’15, Delich became the sixth player to win at least three Senior Match titles, joining Colorado Golf Hall of Famers John Olive (four), Larry Eaton (four), Ed Nosewicz Sr. (four) and Les Fowler (three), along with Bert Welz (four).
“I don’t know if I deserve to be in that company,” Delich said. “I’m just a hockey player that masquerades as a part-time golfer. I know most of the names on that list, and most are Colorado Golf Hall of Famers and have done a lot for the (CGA) over the years. Les Fowler and Eaton really contributed a lot to Colorado golf.
“To be part of any group like that is kind of humbling because hockey is kind of where I got my lists made, so it’s a special thing to have happen. I’ve been on the short end of this thing too (in the finals), so it feels special when you can get it done. They’re so hard to win.”
On Saturday, Delich (above and left) scratched his every-four-year itch in the event by defeating Musselman, from Telluride Ski & Golf Club, 2 and 1 in the championship match at the Club at Ravenna.
Delich battled back from being 2 down for several holes on the front nine. In fact, Musselman missed a 3 1/2-foot birdie putt on No. 4 that would have put him 3 up.
Delich didn’t take his first lead until No. 13, where Musselman missed a 5-foot par putt. Musselman likewise bogeyed the next hole after hitting it into the water, with Delich’s conceded birdie putting him 2 up.
Musselman, who was playing in the Senior Match Play finals for the third consecutive year, cut the deficit to 1 down as he sank an 8-foot par putt on No. 16 while Delich three-putted for bogey.
But the 58-year-old Delich closed things out on No. 17 when he drained an 18-foot downhill birdie putt and Musselman left his 5-footer for birdie short of the cup.
“I wasn’t going to take the chance that he was going to miss,” Delich said, “My putt was 5 feet by the hole if it doesn’t hit the hole. I was not going to leave it short. I had the line and it held the line because of the speed and it went into the center. I was due.”
Musselman (left), meanwhile, felt like the putter let him down as he missed five putts inside of 10 feet in the title match.
“This one I didn’t deserve,” he said. “I putted very poorly all week. If you can’t putt well, if you can’t read the greens, then you shouldn’t win.
“In this match, I was totally in control of my game, then I let the putting woes get the best of me. Mentally, it was almost like it didn’t matter how well I hit the ball. I wasn’t going to get it in the hole so … It just irritated me all day.”
Musselman was 3 under par through seven holes, with 6-inch birdies on Nos. 6 and 7. But a poorly struck approach shot on 8 seemed to get him out of rhythm. That shot left him with a long bunker shot, which he thinned over the green and immediately conceded the hole. Musselman would manage just one other birdie the rest of the match.
“I had it dialed in the first six or seven holes. I mean, I felt it,” said Musselman, who will turn 55 next week. “Then I hit that errant shot — that was odd — then the putting woes.
“I hit two good chip shots and 10 and 13. When I missed those little putts I knew that it wasn’t going to happen.”
Meanwhile, Delich finished the final 4 under par through 17 holes.
For Delich (left), it was his fifth individual CGA championship as he’s claimed a Mid-Amateur and a Senior Stroke Play to go along with his three Senior Match Plays. He’s been a finalist in the Senior Match Play four times in his nine years competing in the event.
“It’s emotional,” said Delich, who also has captured two Southern California senior titles. “You don’t know how many chances you’re going to get. You just don’t know when the last one is; you really don’t.”
So far, it’s been a good golf season for Delich, the 2012 runner-up in the HealthOne Colorado Senior Open. Besides Saturday’s victory, he and partner Ben Hargis won the senior title at the Charlie Coe Invitational, and Delich is an alternate for the U.S. Senior Open later this month.
Earlier in the day on Saturday, Delich was pushed to the 18th hole in the semifinals by Robin Bradbury of Heritage at Westmoor. Delich hit a stellar flop shot for a gimme birdie with little green to work with for a halve on 18 to post a 1-up win. Musselman beat Brian Woody of the Ridge at Castle Pines North in the other semi, 3 and 2.
Delich’s victory gave the Broadmoor a sweep of the titles at Ravenna. On Thursday, John Olive of the Broadmoor captured the CGA Super-Senior Match Play championship when he defeated Roger Gunderson of CommonGround Golf Course in the final, 1 up. For that story, CLICK HERE.
“I was very happy for John,” said Delich, who defeated Olive in the Senior Match Play final in 2007, denying Olive a record fifth title. “For him to get another notch and keep playing at a high level for as many decades as he has done (is special). Yeah, he and I will celebrate. I’m really happy we can share this. We’ll have a good laugh when we get down to the Springs.”

The Colorado Golf Hall of Famer proved that again on Thursday.
Just a couple of months shy of his 70th birthday, Olive defeated Roger Gunderson of CommonGround Golf Course, another winner of multiple CGA titles, 1 up in Thursday’s final of the CGA Super-Senior Match Play at the Club at Ravenna in Littleton.
Asked what another state title means to him, Olive said, “It means that it might be the last one. I don’t know how many more I’ll have to play in. Roger and I are very fortunate that we’re not only still upright but that we still do pretty well (golf-wise).”
Indeed, this Super-Senior Match Play reflected well on the older competitors. Even though anyone age 60 and up who meets the playing standard can compete, the final featured one guy 69 (Olive) and another 71 (Gunderson).
Olive two-putted for par from long range at No. 18, then watched as Gunderson missed a 10-foot birdie putt that would have forced extra holes.
“I breathed a sigh of relief,” Olive said. “We both played some very nice golf at times.”
In a match that was all square after 10, Olive had a 2-up advantage through 16 — after the players halved No. 15 with birdies. But Olive three-putted No. 17 for par — as Gunderson birdied — to force the match to the 18th hole.
The end result was a reverse of last year’s Super-Senior semifinals, when Gunderson defeated Olive. Gunderson has finished second in the last two Super-Senior Match Plays.
For Olive, it was his 11th individual CGA championship, but his first in the Super-Senior Match Play. He’s also won five Senior Stroke Plays, four Senior Match Plays and the 1977 Stroke Play. Olive also has the distinction of being the only amateur to prevail in the Colorado Senior Open (in 1999), and he’s won state senior amateur titles in California and Arizona.
Though Thursday’s final — which was played a day earlier than scheduled because of the threat of bad weather on Friday — went down to the wire, that was the exception for Olive this week. He won his previous matches by large margins: 5 and 4, 7 and 6, 4 and 3, and 7 and 6. The Air Force Academy graduate was 4 under par in his 7-and-6 semifinal victory Thursday morning over top-seeded Jim Reynolds of Bear Creek Golf Club.
“I had to focus,” said Olive, a seven-time CGA Senior Player of the Year. “I slipped back into tournament mode and was very pleased with how played. It was very nice.
“It feels very good to win again.”
Meanwhile, in the CGA Senior Match Play for competitors 50 and older, two former champions won two matches on Thursday to advance to Friday’s semifinals.
That includes 2014 winner Tom Musselman of Telluride Ski & Golf Club, who posted 3 and 2, and 6 and 5 victories on Thursday. And David Delich of the Broadmoor, who’s captured Senior Match Play titles in 2007 and ’11, prevailed 4 and 3 in the quarterfinals after his round-of-16 opponent withdrew.
In Friday morning’s semifinals, Musselman will face Brian Woody of the Ridge at Castle Pines North, and Delich will take on Robin Bradbury of Heritage at Westmoor, who defeated former champion Robert Polk of Colorado Golf Club 2 up in the quarterfinals. Bradbury won the last three holes of that match, going par-birdie-birdie.
The winners of the semifinals will square off for the Senior Match Play title beginning late in the morning on Friday.

Friday was a long time coming for Tom Musselman.
Three-hundred and sixty-four days, to be exact.
But on Friday the 13th, the 54-year-old golfer from Telluride Ski & Golf Club finally earned the trophy that barely eluded him a year ago.
After being forced to settle for second place at the CGA Senior Match Play in 2013, Musselman made a very satisfying move up to the champion’s spot this week.
The former Kentucky state amateur champion won two matches Friday at the Pinery Country Club in Parker, claiming the Senior Match Play title with a 2-and-1 victory over Steve Bell of Denver Country Club.
“This means a lot just because I really focused and practiced over the winter to get ready for this campaign in early June,” Musselman said. “The whole goal was to try to get my game in shape for this event. I was aiming for this one.”
Another Tom, Tom Warren of Fossil Trace Golf Club, earned the CGA Senior-Senior Match Play championship for players 60 and older by defeating Roger Gunderson of Aurora Hills Golf Course, 2 and 1 in Friday’s final.
Musselman, who lost a 2-up final match to Harry Johnson of Eagle Ranch Golf Course on June 14, 2013, avenged that defeat in Thursday’s quarterfinals.
“I had so much confidence going into that final (last year), then all of a sudden I was 4 or 5 over par and get beat. It was disturbing,” said Musselman, a hotel developer from Kentucky who purchased a home in Telluride in 2000. “I knew where Harry was on the board this entire week, and I told him that. He is a competitor. We went at it. I was 3 under par just to beat him. That was my best-played match. I was psyched. I had everything dialed in — and I had to play well. I was watching all week and hoping we’d get to play.”
Then after ousting Larry Netherton of Highlands Ranch Golf Club 4 and 3 in Friday morning’s semifinals, Musselman never trailed in the title match.
Bell looked likely to square the match on the par-4 seventh after Musselman’s tee shot ended up against the trunk of a tree and he was in the front greenside bunker in three. But with Bell having a 5-foot par putt, Musselman holed out a 30-foot sand shot (left) for par, leading to a halve of the hole.
“All of a sudden I hole that damn thing out,” he said. “I know that kind of shook Steve up a little bit.”
Then Musselman won the eighth with a 6-foot birdie and the ninth with a par to go 3 up.
Bell cut the deficit to 1 down when Musselman made bogeys on 10 and 12. But Musselman birdied No. 13 with an up-and-down from the sand, made a 45-foot birdie putt on No. 16, and two-putted from 50 feet for par on No. 17 to claim the victory. Bell (left) lost despite birdies at Nos. 15 and 16, and a lipped-out birdie putt on 17.
“I felt good about most of the way I played, but I had a couple of shaggy-dog holes in the middle of the round that put me down a little bit,” Bell said. “I got a little adrenaline at the end and birdied 15 and 16 and I hit a really good putt on 17 that I thought was going to go. It feels a little bit better when you birdie two of the last three holes.”
In the Senior-Seniors, Warren (below) held the lead for most of the day against Gunderson, the 1998 CGA Senior Match Play champ who had knocked off Colorado Golf Hall of Famer John Olive in the semis. The 61-year-old Warren never trailed after making three consecutive birdies on Nos. 4-6. Still, things were all square after 14, but Warren won Nos. 15 and 17 with pars, the latter after Gunderson hit a shot out of bounds.
The win was especially satisfying considering Warren just got back into tournament golf three years ago after not playing competitively for about a decade.
“I used to play a lot of competitive golf and I took 10 years off and I forgot how much fun it was,” he said.
In his younger years, Warren qualified for two U.S. Junior Amateurs, losing to a young Texan named Ben Crenshaw in one match.
“He was a year older than me and he had a caddie and a coach and a little gallery,” Warren recalled. “I thought, ‘I better find myself another career.’ I just remember watching him hit it 50 yards past me and making 30 footers when I’m shaking on 3 footers.”
On Friday, the 70-year-old Gunderson was in decent shape until his tee shots suddenly went awry coming down the stretch.
“I hit a lot of good shots but I put myself into too many bad positions off the tee coming in,” he said. “I drove the ball really well all week until the last six or seven holes, then I couldn’t keep it on the planet.”
While Gunderson obviously would have like to have won another state title, making it to the super-senior final was an accomplishment by itself.
“I had no expectations coming in,” he said. “I have not been playing well. To get this far, I feel pretty fortunate.”
