Former University of Colorado golfer Jenny Coleman was the only player with strong Colorado ties who made the 72-hole cut at the final stage of LPGA Tour qualifying, but she will need to make up a little ground to earn status on the LPGA circuit in 2017.
Coleman (pictured) stands in 50th place at 1-over-par 289 through Saturday’s fourth round in Daytona Beach, Fla.
The top 20 finishers — out of the 156-player field — after Sunday’s final round will earn full LPGA Tour cards for 2017, while the next 25 players and ties will have conditional status.
Coleman heads into the final 18 one stroke out of 44th place and five out of a 19th-place tie. The former Buff, who finished 31st on the 2016 Symetra Tour money list, shot a 2-over-par 74 on Saturday. After being 1 under par for the day through five holes, she played her final 13 holes in 3 over.
Meanwhile, Denver resident Becca Huffer and former University of Denver golfer Ellie Givens will have to wait for another year to try to gain an LPGA Tour card as both missed the 72-hole cut. They tied for 96th place and needed to be at least four strokes better in order to play on Sunday.
